Good Hotel Guide Review
In an artists’ colony up a hill near the castle (a ‘charming spot’), this stylish little guest house (‘At the Sign of the Crayfish’) is a tasteful recreation of two wooden 18th-century farm buildings, in cobbled courtyards, on this site. The ‘extremely helpful’ Paul family have preserved many original features — tiled floors, open hearths — alongside modern metal and wooden furnishings. Alexandr Paul runs the hotel along with his youngest daughter, and artworks by his wife and eldest daughter adorn the hotel. Visitors like the ‘quiet, welcoming atmosphere’, the ‘unique style’. ‘The perfect place to unwind,’ one wrote. In the kitchen/bar, with its wooden ceiling and open fire, an ample breakfast (fruit, cereals, yogurts, ham, eggs, etc) is served with damask napkins, on ‘exquisite’ blue and white Czech porcelain. Also praised: the ‘impeccable cleanliness’, and the quality of the fittings, eg, a modern shower room. ‘Our bedroom, quite small, had luxurious bedding.’ ‘My spacious room had excellent lighting, a ceiling with great beams.’ One room has a well and a winter garden. The small two-tiered garden ‘has an element of the Japanese’: snacks can be served here.
