Good Hotel Guide Review
On a rocky spur of the south Brittany coast, this luxurious hotel (Relais & Châteaux) is owned by Bertrand Jaquet. A romantic collection of buildings, including a 13th-century stone gateway, old manor houses and cottages, it stands in pretty gardens by the sea. Bedrooms with a sitting room (good for a family) are in palatial modern pavilions; some have a private terrace. There are old stone carvings, beams, modern paintings and sculptures, a huge fireplace. The furniture in a few of the rooms is antique Breton (large carved wardrobes, etc) but gradual renovations mean most rooms are modern in style. The spa, which offers all manner of health treatments, has a large indoor swimming pool overlooked by the spacious breakfast room and a circular balcony. A small, shallow, outdoor pool is set above rocks. Breakfast is available, unusually, as a choice of four set menus, each at €24, but the limited selection is not to everyone’s tastes. The dining room has huge picture windows facing the sea, and you can also dine outdoors, in a courtyard. Service is formal, with much dome-lifting. ‘The staff were particularly efficient and charming,’ says a visitor. Four rooms (junior suites) have air-conditioning.
