Good Hotel Guide Review
Owned by Beat and Michael Held, this modern chalet-style hotel ‘combines Swiss efficiency with charm’. The setting is ‘entrancing’, and it is ‘neither imposing nor sophisticated’, say visitors who were ‘captivated by the comfort and friendliness’. Set up a small, twisting road, it has fine views of the Emmental valley. ‘On a clear day we could see the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from our good-sized balcony’ (the best rooms face south). The rooms are ‘modern [lots of blond wood], and comfortable’. Some have a shower down the corridor. No lounge: the large restaurant, with big terrace, is popular with groups for ‘lunch with a view’, especially on Sunday: ‘At night, it was more relaxed. Excellent dinners, with much use of local ingredients. The good breakfast had wonderful aged Emmental cheese. In summer, we were lulled to sleep by the bells on cows enjoying the luscious flower-strewn grass of the summer pasture.’ A car is virtually essential, although there is a regular postbus service in summer (‘useful for returning to the hotel after following one of the many downhill trails’).
